Driver monitoring systems (DMS) aim to ensure the operator of a vehicle is fit to drive, determining the driver’s exhaustion level and vital signs.
Camera and IR-based driver monitoring systems can have inconsistent results with varying light conditions, especially in direct sunlight. In contrast, mmWave radar technology senses the micromovements of the driver’s chest, and determines the driver’s heart rate and breathing rate, allowing the car to suggest a break.
The sensor module can be placed above the instrument cluster, or integrated into the overhead console.
Contactless Vital Signs Monitoring for Medical Applications
NOVELIC’s vital signs monitoring sensor provides continuous respiratory monitoring and heart rate monitoring for patient beds, incubators, care homes, and ambulances.
With onboard processing and numerical outputs, the sensor can be easily be integrated into remote patient monitoring (RPM) software, providing parameters like heart rate, heart rate variability, respiration rate, respiration rate variability, and movement.
Compared to wearable instruments, a contactless sensor is significantly more flexible and comfortable to the patient. Accurate and timely reporting of patient data provides more data, enables faster medical staff interventions, and ensures better patient outcomes. The compact size of the sensor allows for easy integration into patient beds.
