NOVELIC announces expansion into the Indian market

Chennai, India
April 1st, 2026

The expansion is part of a broader strategy to address the increasing demand for advanced driver assistance systems in the rapidly growing Indian mobility market.

NOVELIC, an internationally renowned provider of mmWave radar solutions, is entering the Indian market as NOVELIC India Private Ltd, based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. NOVELIC India Ltd aims to bring NOVELIC’s cost-effective innovative perception solutions for passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, as well as two- and three-wheeler market segments in India.

Earlier this year, NOVELIC established the first 60 GHz radar production line in India, in collaboration with its parent company Sona Comstar. This production line is set to start producing in-cabin monitoring radar modules for a major western Tier 1 supplier this year. This experience, along with emerging regulatory frameworks, is set to put NOVELIC on a path to produce innovative solutions for the Indian market.

NOVELIC’s 79 GHz automotive radar platform, ASPER, offers a wide 180° horizontal FoV, with highly accurate tracking of objects for ultra-short, short and mid-range ADAS applications. The patent-protected technology enables the introduction of low-cost compact radar sensors for the most popular vehicle categories in India.

The recent amendments to the Indian industry standards AIS 145, AIS 186, and AIS 187 outline a host of mandatory safety features for future commercial vehicles in India: moving off information systems (MOIS), blind spot information systems (BSIS), and reverse parking assist systems (RPAS), meant to aid drivers and protect vulnerable road users. NOVELIC’s ASPER platform is uniquely suited to these applications, with the 180° field-of-view covering an entire side of a vehicle with only one module, using one radar SoC for sensing and processing the data for these safety functions.

The market for ADAS features for passenger vehicles in India is also advancing rapidly, with safety features becoming more commonplace in all price segments. The ASPER platform provides an opportunity for Indian OEMs to provide multiple functions, such as park assist, blind spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert, at a low system cost and low complexity. This approach enables OEMs to omit ultrasonic parking sensors and corner radars, which are not often standard equipment, in favor of a single radar sensor on each bumper.

Two-wheelers and three-wheelers, the largest market segment in India, are also set to benefit from accurate, cost-effective radar sensors. The advanced rider assistance system (ARAS) features enabled by NOVELIC’s ASPER platform include blind spot detection (BSD), front cross-traffic alert (FCTA), rear collision warning (RCW), and front-collision warning (FCW), with a 180° FoV radar sensor placed on the front and rear of the vehicle. All radar data is processed on the SoC itself, enabling implementation in low-cost vehicles that may not have an ADAS domain control unit or a CAN network in place.

About NOVELIC

NOVELIC was founded in 2012 in Belgrade, Serbia. Since its inception, NOVELIC has developed a rich portfolio of IPs relating to perception, and earned a reputation as a trusted partner for automotive and industrial radar solutions. In 2025, NOVELIC received its first Tier 1 nomination for their 60 GHz radar-based in-cabin monitoring solution, built to satisfy the need for child presence detection introduced by Euro NCAP.

Since 2023, NOVELIC has been part of Sona Comstar Group (NSE: SONACOMS.NS), rounding out the group’s portfolio as an international Tier 1 player in the automotive industry.
